A CLERK IN KENTUCKY DEFIES COURT ORDERS BY DENYING GAY COUPLES MARRIAGE LICENCES

As reported by The New York Times,  a country clerk in Kentucky, USA objects to same-sex marriage on religious grounds and refused to issue licenses to gay couples on Tuesday. Her refusal was based on her conviction that God opposes gay marriage and she wants to act on the authority of God.

Lawyers for the intending gay couple filed a motion in a District Court asking to hold the
clerk whose name is Davis(Mrs) in contempt of court, and to assess fines for refusing to issue marriage licenses to their clients.

Mrs Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in June.

One of those in defense of Mrs. Davis, a fellow Kentucky clerk, Casey Davies, insisted that they have not tried to prevent same-sex marriages but are only trying to exercise their First Amendment rights.
Mr Davis said same-sex couples could go to another County to get married when a County clerk objects due to religious beliefs.

Mr. Davis further said he and other clerks who objects to same-sex marriage are going to exercise their rights and more,  will raise awareness for what he described as an assault on religious freedom.

  1. Well, as long as LGBTs are allowed to exercise their rights so also should religious people be allowed theirs too. If a clerk refuses to issue a license to gay couples based on her religious conviction ,then the gay couples can as well move to other county to get registered
