NIGERIA WINS FIFA UNDER 17 WORLD CUP, CHILE 2015



The Nigeria U-17 team also known as the Golden Eaglets has won the FIFA U-17 world cup, Chile 2015,after defeating their counterparts from Mali.

The match threw fans into a frenzy mood when after just 3 minutes Nigeria was awarded a penalty kick when Malian defender, Chato, was adjudged to have intentionally raised his hands to block a shot by the Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen. The subsequent spot kick by Nigeria's Ebele was brilliantly saved by the Malian goalkeeper.

Both teams got their different chances to go ahead in the first 45 minutes but just couldn't convert any of the chances.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 56th minutes by Nigeria through Victor Osimhen. Osimhen converted into  goal a pass by substitute Madueke.

Nigeria's lead was doubled three minutes later through Funsho Bamgboye.  This came after Samuel Chukweze stole the ball from a Malian player and fed a through pass to Bamgboye who slotted the ball pass Samuel, Malian goalkeeper.

The game came to an end still on the 2:0 scoreline. This means Nigeria has now won their fifth FIFA U-17 world cup, a record for any country.

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, also broke the record for most goals scored in a FIFA U-17 world cup with a record of 10 goals scored in this tournament.

Individual awards were also given out the exceptional players of the tournament. Kelechi Nwakali of Nigeria won the Bronze Boot. The Silver Boot was won by Johannes Eggestein of Germany while the Golden Boot was won by no other person than Victor Osimhen.

The Best Player of the Tournament is Kelechi Nwakali who received the Golden Ball.
