MUST READ: PROTECT YOUR ANDROID DEVICE FROM THIS NEW MALWARE

There is a need for all Android phone/tablet users to protect their devices against the latest malware in town that has been targeting android mobile devices in over 20 countries, called Kemoge.

What Really Is Kemoge?

Kemoge was discovered by one of the leaders in cyber security and malware protection, FireEye Labs, and it was named after its command and control domain(CnC) aps.kemoge.net.

According to FireEye, this malware is an adware that camouflages itself as a normal and popular icon that can deceive users to install the app from a third-party app stores.  On the initial launch, this malware collects the device information and uploads it to the ad server, then it pervasively serves ads from the background. Victims see ad banners periodically regardless of their current activity.  Ads even pop-up when the user stays on the android home screen.

Kemoge is annoying at first but soon becomes evil as it carries as many as eight root exploits to root your phones/tablets, targeting a wide range of device model.

Apps through which Kemoge attacks devices include:
-Talking Tom 3
-Calculator
-Shareit
-Assistive Touch
-WiFi enhancer
-Kiss Browser
-Smart touch
-Assistive Touch
-Fingerprint Unlock
-Pinky girls
-Privacy Lock
-Magic Treasure
-Light Browser
-Sex Cademy
-2048kg

There is presently no advice on how to remove this infection from a device other than reinstalling the firmware and entirely wiping the phone/tablet

How to Protect Your  Device From Kemoge

1. Never click on suspicious links from
emails/SMS/websites/advertisements.

2. Don’t install apps outside the official app stores.

3. Keep Android devices updated to avoid being rooted by public known bugs. (Upgrading to the latest version of OS will provide some security, but it does not guarantee that you will remain protected.
