US VERIZON SET TO LAUNCH 5G WIRELESS SERVICE

Verizon CEO, Lovell McAdams
Come 2016, Verizon Communications will begin the commercial pilot test of its ultra high-speed 5G wireless service, according to its CEO, Lovell McAdams. This service will start at the company's headquarters and will involve a limited number of users.

Improvement over 3G and 4G

5G or fifth generation technology will provide a super fast wireless speed. Today's smartphones connect to the network at speeds of 5 megabits per second(Mbps) but in contrast, 5G will enable data output speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second(Gbps).

The commercial mass rollout of 5G by Verizon is scheduled for 2017. What this means is that smartphones with 5G capability won't be available until 2018.

What this means

Verizon is not the only communications company to work on 5G technology. Other communications giants are also working on the technology but Verizon seems to be the first to make a real life test and also to plan a mass rollout. The breakthrough of Verizon surely will make other communication companies to intensify their efforts of making 5G technology a reality.
