With Google's latest OS, Android 6.0 Marshmallow presently on less than one percent of all android devices, Google is already thinking ahead by making a plan for the next in line, Android “N”. Google is
yet to reveal what the “N” stands for but looking at its predecessors, N is sure to be a sweet treat.
Android N will get its first outing at Google I/O 2016, likely toward the end of may or beginning of June 2016. Google will offer an Android Developer Preview, which can be installed on Nexus devices for a test run.
Later in 2016, possibly October, the final version of Android N will be announced with a pre-installation on any new Google Nexus devices coming out in 2016.
If your Android device(s) is still running an older versions of Android OS, it's time you start thinking of an upgrade
